About Saxton Community Library

The Saxton Community Library has been serving the Saxton and Broad top area since March 6, 1968.  Established through the efforts of Lila Pennell and a dedicated group of volunteers, the first books were loaned from a room in the Saxton United Methodist Church.  In 1972 a move was made into a part of the former Lutheran Church which had been acquired by the Tussey Mountain Jaycees.  By 1976, the First National Bank of Saxton built a new building and offered the library a home in the basement level where it remained till 1993.  At that time, through the diligent work of Librarian Carolyn Fuller and a very supportive Board of Directors, the Bedford County Commissioners, the Tussey Mountain School District and local volunteers, the library finally had its own building at 315 Front Street, near the Tussey Mountain High School.  In 2008, volunteers were coordinated by Dan Miller and Philip Dolte to construct an addition and the Tenley-Walters Community Room was dedicated in June 2010.  Today the space is used for library programs and community events and can be rented for private parties.
